The Coaching Station is a suite of rooms at the historic Tramway Offices on Mellor Street - a beautiful building with many of it's period features still in place (including panelled walls, fireplaces and parquet floors!).
The site is owned and run by John Chalker, managing director of the legendary local Ron Chalkers - The Potato Man who are based on the site. John is himself a professionally trained musician, and Jonathan (Chalker's transport manager) is also a talented local musical director, pianist and keyboard player. So music has a strong connection at the venue!
The Coaching Station has been established to create an easily accesible, central location for musicians and bands to meet for lessons and rehearsal. We are committed to re-kindling the strong local tradition for pioneering pop and rock music dating back to names such as Martin Hannett, Tony Wilson, Tractor, Peter Hook, Joy Division, The Fall, The Mock Turtles and venues such as Cargo Studios (now refurbished and running as Voltalab very soon).
We have a range of fully-equipped teaching studios for guitars, keyboards, vocals, piano, drums and bands with pro-quality equipment and resources. We even have a waiting room with leather chairs, an x-box 360 (and giant Amy Winehouse mural to keep an eye on things!)
Off-road parking is available on site for approximately 10 cars (with an additional 8 spaces in the neighbouring gated car park to the left of the main building)
We have grand plans for local gigs, Battle Of The Bands competitions and recording/rehearsal facilities & packages- watch this space!
